Industry Canada - Identifying the user centric approach through site reviews
Our site reviews help Canada's biggest sites overcome clutter and take a citizen-centric approach.
As the Canadian government brings all its information and services online, the struggle is to organize and present this content in a cohesive, single portal approach.
  • There are hundreds of sites, many of which are dated both in their technology and content.
  • Sites have been abandoned, repurposed, and updated without an overall plan.
  • It's challenging to find information and often difficult to use it.
  • There is a need for direction, organization, end user focus and adequate tools and processes.
The Adeo team with its proven site review methodology and background in usability was chosen to provide direction.

Multi-disciplined teams were assigned to review selected sites.
  • These sites were analyzed from a content, architecture, design, technology and compliance perspective.
  • Many of these sites were deconstructed to determine core content then rearchitected around user goals.
  • Benchmarking against best of class sites gave a gap analysis that could be addressed.
  • Best practices for site design based on universal accessibility ensured that these special sites were accessible to all citizens.
Recommended screen layouts, navigation, content optimization, and newer technology approaches were put forward.

Site reviews were documented and presented to the working groups allowing an exchange of ideas and knowledge transfer in best practices of web design.

New site design concepts were created to illustrate optimal design structures based on site review comments. Many of these sites are now in production.

Adeo's methodologies for site structure, optimal design and usability testing are the standard for many at Industry Canada.
